Softball Splits Doubleheader against Siena in New Britain
The Central Connecticut softball team is now 11-19 on the season after splitting a non-conference doubleheader Monday with #$%^Siena, who moves to 4-23 on the season. The Blue Devils were led by sophomore leadoff batter Rebecca Mussatti, who went #$%^3-6 on the afternoon with a triple and a pair of singles. Mussatti also drew a walk and scored a run for the Blue Devils during #$%^the two contests. Junior Elizabeth Montemurro went the distance for Central in the victory allowing only four earned runs for #$%^her sixth victory on the season.

Mussatti also drew a walk and scored a run for the Blue Devils during the two contests. In game one the Blue Devils struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Mussatti led off with a triple down the left field line and later scored on an RBI ground out to the second baseman by freshman Kelsey Barlow. The Saints answered in the top of the second inning with a run off of sophomore Lindsey McKeever's RBI single to centerfield. Sophomore Natasha Powlowsky scored on the play, after reaching on a walk to start the inning for the Saints.
The Blue Devils continued the offense in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs when sophomore Sarah Vlahos singled to start the inning. Vlahos was advanced to second base by freshman Macy Stefanski's sacrifice bunt. Junior Kendall Sours followed with a singleto left center and advanced to second on the throw home. Vlahos and Sours scored to make the CCSU lead 3-1.
In the top of the third inning the Blue Devils had three straight hits, two of which were home runs. The first was a solo homer to left center field by junior Katherine Knowles. Barlow followed with a single to right center field and then scored on a two RBI home run by senior Jaclyn Logan.
The Blue Devils took an 8-5 lead in the fifth inning when Vlahos and Stefanski each drove in a run. Siena hit a solo home run in the sixth to make it 8-6.
Central Connecticut finished game one with eight runs on 10 hits and two errors to defeat Siena, who tallied six runs on seven hits and one error in the first contest.
In game two Central Connecticut was topped by Siena by a score of 9-2. Siena broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning when freshman Shannon Jones' reached base on an RBI error by the third baseman. McKeever, who led off the inning with a walk, scored on the play. The Saints continued the offense in the fourth and fifth frames to increase their lead to 7-0 at the end of five innings.
Central would score their only two runs of the ballgame in the bottom of the sixth inning. The runs came on a pair of RBI singles by Knowles and Logan. CCSU finished the game with two runs on three hits and two errors, as the Saints recorded nine runs on 15 hits and one error in the victory.
Central Connecticut will return to action on the road Saturday, April 10 when the Blue Devils will play Bryant in Smithfield, RI.
