Softball Drops Doubleheader in Opener on New CCSU Softball Field
The Central Connecticut State University softball team dropped a doubleheader to visiting Rhode Island on Tuesday afternoon, 7-1 and 8-0. The games were the first on the new CCSU Softball Field and the first on campus since the 2007 season. Central falls to 4-7 overall on the season. They return to action on Friday afternoon at Temple.
The Central Connecticut (4-7) softball team dropped a doubleheader to visiting Rhode Island (4-8) on Tuesday afternoon, 7-1 and 8-0. The games were the first on the new CCSU Softball Field and the first on campus since the 2007 season.
Central Connecticut freshman Kate Hoffman led off the bottom of the sixth inning for the Blue Devils with a line drive up the middle and was later advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by senior Sara Budrick. Hoffman would score on a sacrifice fly by senior Jaclyn Logan.
Junior Liz Montemurro relieved the starting pitcher in first inning and was able to stop the Rhode Island first inning rally. Montemurro pitched seven innings, scattering seven hits, while allowing one run and striking out six.
Amanda Sbei was the winning pitcher for the Rams pitching seven innings and allowing only one run on four hits
In the second game of the afternoon the Blue Devils were led by junior Kendall Sours who had two hits in her two at bats and junior Kathrine Knowles who went two for four on the game.
Central return to action Friday afternoon at Temple for a double header begining at 3:00 pm.
