Men's Indoor Tabbed Second In Preseason NEC Coaches Poll
Blue Devils earned two first place votes from the leagues coaches
Men's indoor track and field earned two first place votes and are picked to finish as runners-up at the 2023 Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship.
The Blue Devils have several returnees that scored points at the 2022 championship. Cam Whalen is back for the Blue Devils, after a strong showing in the 60m hurdles in the 2022 championship, where he placed fifth. James Sullivan and Yankarlos Diaz, off strong cross country campaigns, placed sixth and seventh respectively in the 5,000m. Also returning, after redshirting, will be 2022 NEC Outdoor MVP and Most Outstanding Distance Performer, Eddie Nicholas. He won the 10,000m and 3,000m steeplechase the outdoor championship.
Isreal Henriques-Setho captured third place in the long jump, with a leap of 7.02m. A trio of throwers that scored last season return, with Andrew McCarthy in the weight throw and Tyrone Mack and Leon Green both placing in the shot put.
CCSU scored 31 points in the 2022 championship meet, and placed seventh. Wagner is the defending champion after accumulating 129.5 points.
Wagner earned six first place votes in the coaches poll to be tabbed as the favorite to win the championship. LIU and Saint Francis U were placed in a tie for third, followed by FDU, which recieved a first place vote. Merrimack was tabbed sixth, followed by Sacred Heart, Stonehill and St. Francis Brooklyn.
