Connecticut 6 Classic Triple Header to Open the 2009-10 Men's Basketball Season on November 13 in Bridgeport

State college basketball fans will converge on the city of Bridgeport on November 13 for the first Connecticut 6 Classic, a men's basketball tripleheader. The Connecticut 6 is set for the next three years with this year's tripleheader being played at Arena at Harbor Yard. The second and third years of the Connecticut 6 will take place at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville.

Central Connecticut Extends Radio Contract with ESPN Radio 1410 and ESPN Radio 1300

The Central Connecticut department of athletics announced on Tuesday that it will continue to broadcast men's basketball and select football games on the CCSU ESPN Radio Network beginning next fall. CCSU, along with ESPN Radio 1410, WPOP in Hartford, and ESPN Radio 1300, WAVZ in New Haven, have extended their contract to air Blue Devil athletics throughout the Nutmeg State. A new four-year contract between CCSU and the two stations is effective immediately, and it runs through the 2012-13 season. The Central Connecticut men's basketball team will be the exclusive local men's basketball team carried on both ESPN Radio 1410 and ESPN Radio 1300 for at least the next four years. Select football games will also be available on ESPN Radio 1410 during that time.

Men's Basketball Season Ends on Thursday Night With Quarterfinal Loss at Sacred Heart

The Central Connecticut men's basketball season came to an end on Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the Northeast Conference Tournament. The Blue Devils dropped a 76-64 decision on the road at third-seed Sacred Heart. With the loss the Blue Devils finish the season with a 13-17 overall record, they were the sixth seed in the tournament for the second straight season.

Sophomore Forward Ken Horton Named Second-Team All-Northeast Conference on Tuesday

Sophomore forward Ken Horton was named to the Northeast Conference Second-Team, it was announced on Thursday morning in the pre-tournament media conference call. Horton, who led the Blue Devils in scoring this season averaging 16.6 points per game, is the leading active scorer for the Blue Devils with over 800 career points. He started 26 of 27 games played in his second season in New Britain and led the Blue Devils with 29 three-pointers.

Blue Devils Fall at Quinnipiac, Claim Sixth Seed in Next Week's Northeast Conference Tournament

For the first time in 13 seasons as the head coach at Central Connecticut, head coach Howie Dickenman and the Blue Devils lost on the road against Quinnipiac. The Bobcats defeated the Blue Devils on Saturday afternoon, 69-55, to claim the fifth seed in the upcoming Northeast Conference Tournament next week. The Blue Devils will be the sixth seed in the tournament and will play at Sacred Heart on Thursday night at 7 p.m. The Blue Devils had not lost in Hamden since 1981 and Dickenman was 10-0 in his career on the road vs. the Bobcats. With the loss CCSU ends the regular season 13-16 overall and 8-10 in NEC action.

Sophomore David Simmons Matches Career High in Blue Devil Defeat on Thursday

Sophomore David Simmons matched his career high with 16 points in a 75-67 Central Connecticut (13-15, 8-9) Northeast Conference home loss against Monmouth (8-22, 6-11). Simmons, who was 6-of-9 from the floor, also had six rebounds. Freshman Robby Ptacek added 15 points and three assists for the Blue Devils, who will close out the regular season at Quinnipiac on Saturday, Feb. 28. Opening tip is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be televised live on NESN.

Blue Devils Rebound With 78-73 Home Win Over St. Francis (NY) on Saturday

Senior Marcus Palmer and freshman Robby Ptacek each scored 17 points as an undermanned Blue Devil team defeated St. Francis (NY) 78-73 on Saturday afternoon in New Britain. The win snaps a three-game slide at home for the Blue Devils and improves their Northeast Conference record to 8-8. Sophomore David Simmons posted his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Blue Devils Drop Conference Home Decision to Sacred Heart, Thompson Scores 13

Sophomore Shemik Thompson had 13 points to pace Central Connecticut (12-14, 7-8) in a 101-67 Northeast Conference home loss against Sacred Heart (13-13, 10-6). Freshman Kyle Desmarais added a career-best 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals, while sophomore Tamir Johnson had 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds. The Blue Devils, who started a three-game home stretch tonight, will host St. Francis (NY) at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21.

Men's Basketball Posts 1,000th All-Time Victory With Non-Conference Win at Bryant on Saturday

The Central Connecticut men's basketball team posted its 1,000th all-time victory with a 65-61 non-conference win at Bryant University on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the all-time record for the CCSU men's team to 1,000-754 since the inception of the program in 1934-35. With the victory the Blue Devils are now 12-13 overall this season, it was the final non-conference game of the year for CCSU. Sophomore forward Ken Horton led the way with 23 points, the 15th 20-point game of his career. CCSU returns home on Thursday night hosting Sacred Heart at 7 p.m.

Ptacek Matches Career High with 20 Points in 80-73 Central Connecticut Loss Versus FDU

Freshman Robby Ptacek had 20 points, matching a season high, to lead Central Connecticut (11-13, 7-7) in an 80-73 Northeast Conference home loss versus Fairleigh Dickinson (7-18, 6-8). Senior Marcus Palmer added 12 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore Shemik Thompson had 11 points and nine assists. The Blue Devils next play on Saturday, Feb. 14. They will take a break from league action with a 3:30 affair at Bryant.

Men's Basketball Winning Streak Stopped on Saturday Afternoon by Robert Morris

Central Connecticut dropped a 64-44 decision on Saturday afternoon to league-leader Robert Morris and falls to 11-12 overall and 7-6 in Northeast Conference play. Sophomore guard Shemik Thompson scored a team-high 13 points and had four steals as the Blue Devils lost at home for the first time in eight games. The Colonials are now 17-8 overall and 11-1 in league action. The Blue Devils play again on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at home vs. Fairleigh Dickinson.

Blue Devils Win Seventh Straight at Home, 65-52, Over St. Francis (PA) on Thursday

Sophomore forward Ken Horton scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Central Connecticut men's basketball team won its seventh straight home game, 65-52, on Thursday night over St. Francis (PA). With the victory the Blue Devils are now 11-11 overall and 7-5 in Northeast Conference play. The Red Flash fall to 5-17 and 2-9 in the league. Sophomore guard Shemik Thompson added 17 points for CCSU in the win. The Blue Devils host conference-leader Robert Morris at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The victory is the 999th in the history of the men's program at CCSU.

Men's Hoop Falls on the Road at Sacred Heart on Saturday Afternoon

The Central Connecticut men's basketball team saw its two-game win streak come to and end on Saturday afternoon in Fairfield, CT, dropping a 77-69 decision at Sacred Heart. The Blue Devils are now 10-11 overall and 6-5 in Northeast Conference play after the loss. Sacred Heart improves to 10-11 overall and 7-4 in league play. The Blue Devils return home on Thursday night to host St. Francis (PA) and will play six straight NEC games at home in February. Thursday's game will be televised live on Cox Sports Television and the Connecticut Sports Network.

Sophomore Ken Horton Leads the Way as Blue Devils Top Wagner on the Road on Thursday Night

Sophomore forward Ken Horton scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Central Connecticut men's basketball team won its second straight, on the road at Wagner on Thursday night, 72-64. Horton had 14 in the first half to lead the Blue Devils to the win. The Blue Devils improve to 10-10 overall and 6-4 in Northeast Conference play with the victory. Wagner falls to 10-10 and 3-7 with the loss. CCSU plays again on Saturday at Sacred Heart. Following Saturday's game the Blue Devils will play six of their final seven NEC games at home in Detrick Gym.

Fan Bus Announced for Doubleheader at Bryant University on Valentine's Day

The CCSU Department of Athletics has announced that it will run a fan bus to Bryant University on Saturday, February 14 for the women's and men's basketball doubleheader. The women play at 1 p.m. and the men will follow at 3:30 p.m. The bus will leave from Kaiser Hall at 10:30 a.m. and will return following the men's game. The price is $25 per person and includes admission to the games. Interested fans can call Sharon Hornik in the athletics department at 860-832-3035.

Blue Devils Win Sixth Straight Home Game, 59-55, Over Quinnipiac on Saturday Afternoon

Senior forward Marcus Palmer posted his second straight double-double and the Blue Devils hit 16-of-18 from the free throw line as Central Connecticut topped Quinnipiac 59-55 on Saturday afternoon in New Britain. The win is the sixth straight at home for the Blue Devils and improves their record to 9-10 overall and 5-4 in the Northeast Conference. With the loss the Bobcats drop to 8-11 overall and 4-5 in the league.
