Football Outscored by Southeastern Louisiana at Home on Saturday
The Central Connecticut football team lost to Southeastern Louisiana, 56-10, on Saturday at Arute Field. The Blue Devils were within, 7-3, midway through the opening quarter before the Lions responded with five unanswered touchdowns to break the game open.
SLU outgained CCSU, 571-290, in total offense and forced four turnovers in the game. Central was limited to just 195 yards through the air and just 95 yards on the ground.
Junior Jahlil Brown led the Blue Devils with nine tackles. Freshman Rob Schork had a forced fumble and recovery, while classmate Kaiyon Gunn added seven tackles and an interception.

KEY MOMENTS
- Southeastern went 81 yards in four plays to open the game before Central drove 59 yards on 12 plays in its first drive, capped off by a 33-yard field goal by junior Joe Zoppi to make it 7-3 at the 7:00 mark of the first quarter.
- The Lions would score three touchdowns in the second quarter and two more to begin the third quarter to take a 42-3 lead. Cole Kelley would account for a pair of passing scores and another on the ground to help SLU take control of the game.
- Central would score its only touchdown of the game with 2:22 to play in the third quarter. Following a turnover, Central would take over in SLU territory. Junior Keonte Lucas would take a shuffle pass from sophomore Romelo Williams and score from eight yards out.
- The Lions closed the scoring with a 39-yard pass from Kelley and a one-yard run by Cephus Johnson III to cap the game.

GAME NOTES
- The teams were meeting for the first time. Former Blue Devil, Ed Groth, is an assistant coach at SLU.
- Senior Nasir Smith gained a team-high 83 yards on 21 carries for CCSU
- Freshman Paul Marsh had 44 yards on his only catch of the game to lead the Blue Devils. Freshman Isiah Williams had 49 yards on three catches.
- Williams had 148 yards in the air on 17-of-34 passing. He has thrown for five touchdowns and two interceptions on the year. Graduate student Shon Mitchell went 6-of-8 for 47 yards.
- Kelley finished the game 25-of-33 for 444 yards with four touchdowns and an interception. He is the first CCSU opponent to top 300 yards since UAlbany's Jeff Undercuffer had 304 yards on Nov. 30, 2019 in the FCS playoffs.
- Austin Mitchell (116) and CJ Turner (119) each topped 100 receiving yards for the Lions
