Baseball Shuts Out FDU in Friday's Series Opener
The Central Connecticut baseball team opened the final weekend of the regular season with a 6-0 win on Friday against Fairleigh Dickinson in Northeast Conference action at CCSU Baseball Field. The Blue Devils scored four runs in the fourth inning and senior Andrew Braun tosse shutout innings to pace the home side.

KEY MOMENTS
- Central got an RBI-single from sophomore Dan Covino to open the scoring in the third inning before breaking the game open in the fourth. Freshman Noah Martinez led off with a double and moved to third on a fly out to right. Senior Dave Matthews and junior Sam Loda followed with back-to-back RBI-singles to make it 3-0. After freshman Elliot Good walked, Loda would steal third and both would come home on a double by junior Matt Bertochi to make it 5-0.
- CCSU tacked on a run in the fifth after junior Jay Devito led off with a single and advanced on a ground out. Freshman Michael Torniero followed with a two-out single to drive in a run and make it 6-0.
- Braun settled in to shutdown FDU after allowing five hits in the first 4.0 innings. The Knights would load the bases with one out in the third, but Braun would end the threat with a pop-up and a strikeout.
- Junior Dylan Sabia picked up the save, allowing just one hit over 3.0 shutout innings to close out the 6-0 win.
NUMBER TO KNOW
2 - Central posted its second shutout of the season. Braun has been the starter in both (March 19 vs. Sacred Heart, May 20 vs. FDU) and CCSU has won both by a score of 6-0.
NOTES
- Braun improved to 8-1 on the year. He scattered 6 hits over 6.0 innings, while posted three strikeouts against two walks.
- Sabia has collected a save in two straight outings and is second on the team with four on the year.
- Bertochi went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, he was one of five Blue Devils with two hits.
- Loda added two hits, two runs scored and an RBI.
- Covino, Martinez and Torniero each had two hits.
- Central has 15 games of 10 or more hits this season.

The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday. CCSU will honor its seniors before the first game, slated for a 12pm first pitch.
