Women's Indoor T&F Takes Third at NEC Championships
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team finished third at the 2015 Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday afternoon.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team finished third at the 2015 Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday afternoon. The championships were a two day event held at the Prince George Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, MD. The Blue Devils finished with 64 points over the 17 scored events to earn the third place finish.
Sophomore Brittany Mendelson and senior Elizabeth Eberhardt highlighted the second and final day of competition at the championships for the Blue Devils with a one-two finish in the one mile run. Mendelson broke the tape and crossed the finish line first with a personal-best time of 4:58.45. Her time was also an automatic qualifying for the ECAC championships in March. Eberhardt also ran a personal-best time to take the silver and finished right behind Mendelson with a time of 5:00.45.

Sacred Heart won the 2015 Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships logging 162 total points. LIU Brooklyn was runner-up to the Pioneers with team score of 137 points. The Blue Devils edged out Wagner to round out the podium with 64 team points to take third.
Wagner finished fourth with 60 points, followed by Robert Morris in fifth with 55 points, Saint Francis (PA) sixth with 47 points and Fairleigh Dickinson seventh with 46 points. Mount St. Mary's was eight with 37 points and St. Francis (NY) and Bryant finished ninth and tenth respectively with 27 and 26 points.
Central Connecticut senior Taylor LePage finished third in the 800 meter final with a time of 2:19.31, scoring six points for her team. She ran two seconds faster than her qualifying time on Saturday.
Senior Shannon McBride finished fifth in the 1,500 meter final with a time of 10:14.38, good for four points in the team total. Senior teammate Krisztina Dearborn finished eighth in the same event with a time of 10:24.94.
Sophomore Sarah Hicks was fourth in the 60 meter final on Sunday, with a time of 9.18 and good for five points towards the team total. Sophomore teammate Melissa Wolliston was seventh in a time of 9.32, good for two points.
The Blue Devils won the 4,000 meter distance medley relay in a time of 12:13.29, good for 10 points. The team was comprised of Eberhardt and Ronea Saunders along with LePage and Mendelson.
McBride (5th) and Dearborn (8th) scored in the 5,000 meter run. McBride was fifth with a time of 18:00.72, good for four points. Dearborn's time of 18:15.20 gave the Blue Devils another point in the race.
The Blue Devils were sixth in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:04.83. Central's team of sophomore Taylor Boncal, junior Alessandra Salmon, junior Chantelle Deer and sophomore Sherise Truman scored three points in the final.
The Blue Devils will return to action on March 1 at the Last Chance Meet at Boston University before the IC4A/ECAC Championships on March 7-8, also at Boston University.
