W. Track & Field Currently Fourth At NEC Championships
The CCSU women's indoor track and field team is currently in fourth place with 15 points thru four completed events after the first day of competition at the Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team is currently in fourth place with 15 points through four completed events after the first day of competition at the Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. The championships are being held at the Prince George Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, MD.
Sacred Heart leads the way with 62 points, LIU Brooklyn is in second with 23 points, Saint Francis (PA) is third with 19 points and then the Blue Devils are fourth with 15 points.
CCSU is ahead of Fairleigh Dickinson (13), Bryant (8), Robert Morris (6), and Wagner (5) and Mount St. Mary's (5).
The second and final day of competition will begin tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.
NEC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS - DAY 1
On Saturday senior Ronea Saunders finished second in the high jump with a jump of 1.73 meters. She was unsuccessful in three attempts at 1.76 meters.
In the 800 meter prelims senior Taylor LePage qualified for Sunday's final with the fourth fastest time of the day. She ran 2:21.77.
Senior Shannon McBride finished in fifth place in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:14.38, good for four points. Classmate Krisztina Dearborn finished eighth in the same race to earn one point with a time of 10:24.94.
Junior Chelse Terry finished seventh in the weight throw with a throw of 14.62 meters to earn two points for her team.
Two Blue Devils qualified for the finals in the 1-mile run, led by sophomore Brittany Mendelson who had the fastest time of the day, 5:12.90. Senior teammate Elizabeth Eberhardt qualified fifth with a time of 5:16.34.
Two more qualified for the 60 meter hurdle finals on Sunday. Sophomores Sarah Hicks and Melissa Wolliston finished tied for fifth and seventh respectively with times of 9.18 seconds and 9.25 seconds to move to Sunday's final.
