Alterisio, D'Arcy and McLaughlin Honored by ECAC
Mick D'Arcy was named the ECAC Coach of the Year.
Central Connecticut women's soccer head coach Mick D'Arcy headlined the Blue Devils' All-ECAC honorees announced by the organization. D'Arcy was named the ECAC Coach of the Year and co-captains Shauny Alterisio and Roma McLaughlin were named to the All-ECAC Team.
D'Arcy led CCSU to back-to-back NEC Championships and its 10th NCAA Tournament appearance, the eighth time with D'Arcy at the helm. The Blue Devils earned its second NCAA Tournament victory with a 1-0 upset over Rutgers advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. D'Arcy was named the NEC Coach of the Year for the second straight year and sixth time in his career. He earned his 200th career victory at Central against Robert Morris on October 25. D'Arcy and his staff were recognized by the United Soccer Coaches as the North Regional Staff of the Year.
This is the second straight year Alterisio was honored by the ECAC. She was awarded NEC Defensive Player of the Year for the second time, marking the sixth consecutive year a Blue Devil has earned the award. The senior was awarded by the United Soccer Coaches earning a spot on the All-North Region team. The star defender was also one of four Blue Devils invited to the NEWISA Senior Bowl. Alterisio played a key role to the Blue Devil defense this season that posted seven shutouts on the year and finished the season with a home record of 9-0-1.
McLaughlin joined Alterisio on the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region Team and was recently announced as the first women's soccer player at CCSU to be named to the Division I Women's Soccer All-America Second Team. The NEC Midfielder of the Year led the Blue Devils with 10 goals on the season including the lone goal in Central's 1-0 win against Fairleigh Dickinson in the NEC Championship. McLaughlin had a .774 shots on goal percentage and finished second in the NEC in points, goals, and game-winners and was in the top-100 in the nation for four different categories.
The Blue Devils finished the season with a 13-5-4 record, winning back-to-back NEC Titles and making it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history.
