Betsy Vendel Named NEC Rookie of the Week For Third Time
Central Connecticut freshman Betsy Vendel was recognized for her outstanding play this week, as the Northeast Conference #$%^honored her with Rookie of the Week honors for the league-leading third time this season. Vendel scored four goals and #$%^recorded nine assists as she tied the CCSU single season record for assists with 19 helpers in 10 games so far in 2010.

The Sandy Hook, CT native scored two goals and added four assists as Central fell to Wagner on Thursday. She added six ground balls, three draw controls and five caused turnovers against the Seahawks. Vendel then scored another two goals, while picking up two ground balls and three draws in a loss to Long Island. The freshman recorded five assists against the Blackbirds, tying Julia Steier's single-game record set in 2003.
Vendel is currently tied for second in the NEC with 4.10 points per game. She also ranks third in assists per contest with a average of 1.90 and is 10th in the league with 2.20 goals per game. CCSU, now 4-6 on the season, will next play a pair of road contests at NEC foes Mount St. Mary's and Monmouth on April 9 and 11, respectively.
