Softball Drops Both Ends of Doubleheader Versus UConn
Central Connecticut (6-21) lost both games of a doubleheader versus UConn (20-11) in Storrs, CT. Junior Sara Budrick had a single in each game for the Blue Devils, who were serving as hosts for the pair of contests. The Huskies won game one, 8-0, in five innings. They then picked up an 11-0, five-inning victory in game two.

UConn scored in every inning of the first game. The Huskies put up two runs in the first, three in the second and one in the third, fourth and fifth. In addition to Budrick's single, senior Rachel Brenneman, junior Jaclyn Logan and sophomore Kendall Sours each had a hit.
Brenneman allowed eight runs, five earned, on nine hits in the losing effort. She struck out four. Senior Jillian Ortega went 2-for-3 with three RBI in the win. Senior Micah Truax added a home run for UConn. Junior Tricia Sullivan picked up the win on the mound. She pitched three innings, allowing two hits while striking out six. Freshman Ali Adelman threw the final two innings. She gave up two hits and struck out three.
Budrick had CCSU's only hit in the second game. UConn built its 11-0 lead with two runs in the first, three in the second, two in the fourth and five in the fifth. Budrick led off the bottom half of the fifth inning with a single.
Freshman Abby Harpp started on the mound for the Blue Devils. She gave up seven runs on eight hits before being relieved by sophomore Elizabeth Montemurro in the fourth inning. Montemurro surrendered the final four runs on five hits over 1.2 innings. Truax had another homer in the second game. Sophomore Julianne Towers led the UConn offense, going 4-for-4 with five RBI and four runs scored. She doubled twice and hit a home run. Senior Rachael Crossin pitched three innings of hitless ball in the win. She struck out five and walked one. Freshman Jessie Stavola gave up the lone hit in two innings of work.
Central Connecticut will be back in Storrs on Tuesday. The Blue Devils are hosting Brown in non-conference doubleheader action beginning at 2:30 p.m.
