Men's Cross Country Wins Ted Owen Invitational
Patrick Hubbell leads CCSU to victory at Ted Owen Invitational.
The Central Connecticut men's cross country team won the 12th Annual Ted Owen Invitational on Saturday. The 8k race was hosted by the Blue Devils at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT and featured 14 teams and 135 total competitors. Senior Patrick Hubbell crossed the finish line first for CCSU with a third place finish and a time of 26:06.67.
Seven runners competed for the Blue Devils and all five scoring runners finished in the top 10 of the race to earn CCSU the victory. Hubbell's third place finish came at a 5:16 pace.
Finishing right behind Hubbell were junior Matt Walker, sophomore Ryan Hertzog and sophomore Colin Sauter. Walker finished sixth overall with a time of 26:30.73, Hertzog finished seventh with a time of 26:36.27 and Sauter finished at the 26:39.00 mark which was good for eighth.
Rounding out the scoring and the top 10 was CCSU's Tyler Raymond. The junior finished tenth with a time of 26:52.35.
Also running for the Blue Devils were sophomores Thomas Lupoli and Brendan Callahan finishing 16th and 30th respectively. Lupoli crossed the finish line with a time of 27:27.11 and Callahan finished at the 28:06.05 mark.
CCSU scored only 34 total points to claim the victory and had a team average time of 26:33.00. Behind the Blue Devils were the Boston Terriers in second place with a total score of 45. Temple (112), St. Francis PA (141) and Bryant (163) rounded out the top five.
Mount St. Mary's (176), Southern Connecticut St. (207), Sacred Heart (213), Wagner (228) and NJIT (272) finished in the next five slots to round out the top-ten.
Finishing in the last four spots were New Haven in 11th with 275 total points followed by St. Francis NY (338), Fairleigh Dickinson (348) and CCNY (409).
The race featured eight teams from the Northeast Conference in what may serve as a preview for the Northeast Conference Championships which will also be hosted by the Blue Devils at Stanley Quarter Park on Saturday Nov. 1.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 11 for their next meet when they travel to Boston, MA for the 2014 New England Championships.
