Biekert Tabbed NEC Track Athlete of the Week
Junior Brian Biekert earned the honor after his CCSU record-breaking performance in the 1,500m run this past weekend at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic.
Junior Brian Biekert of the Central Connecticut men's track and field team has been named NEC Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday, for his record-breaking performance this past weekend at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic.
Biekert clocked in at 3:45.28 for the 1,500m run at Bucknell, breaking the 50-year old CCSU outdoor record in the event (3:46.40) set in 1964 by Jim Keefe. The time made him the second-fastest collegiate finisher at the meet, behind only Penn State's Brannon Kidder.
Biekert's latest performance moves the third-year Blue Devil up to 12th on the NCAA East Region leader board and 31st overall in Division I. Biekert also appears to be a threat to the NEC Outdoor Championship meet record (3:49.19).
The junior brings the honor back to CCSU after senior Craig Hunt claimed the award last week for his performance in the 10,000m run.
The Blue Devils are set to return to the track this weekend, April 18-19 at Princeton and Yale.
