Women's Cross Country wins NEC Championship
The Blue Devils win their first NEC Championship since 1999.
The Central Connecticut women's cross country team was named the 2018 Northeast Conference Champions on Saturday at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI after an impressive overall team effort. CCSU finished with 46 points bringing home the gold for the first time since 1999.
Blue Devil rookie standout, Ashley Dana was named the 2018 Northeast Conference Women's Cross Country Freshman of the Year as the first freshman finisher in 15th place with a time of 19:07.7.
Sophomore Angie Rafter finished first overall out of 80 runners with a time of 18:03.6. The Danielson, CT native was also named to the NEC All-Conference team and named the 2018 Northeast Conference Most Outstanding Performer.
Sophomore Megan Brawner also lead the pack of runners finishing 4th with a time of 18:23.0, just three seconds behind Mount St. Mary's Erin Jaskot.
Seniors Dawn Hubbell and Madeline Mondo crossed the finish line within five seconds of one another finishing in 12th and 14th place respectively. Hubbell completed the 5K course in 18:52.0 and Mondo 18:57.9.
In her second NEC Championship race, sophomore Sabrina Chesters finished 20th with a time of 19:28.1. Rounding out the Blue Devil runners were senior Morgan Ricci and sophomore Kailyn Accetura. Ricci turned in a time of 21:13.2 and Accetura finished at 21:44.1.
Saint Francis U. placed second as a team followed by Sacred Heart (3), Mount St. Mary's (4), Wagner (5), LIU Brooklyn (6), Robert Morris (7), Fairleigh Dickinson (8), Bryant (9), and St. Francis Brooklyn (10).
