Women's Golf Sixth, McLean and Whelan Finish 12th at NEC Championships
McLean and Whelan tied for 12th place
Freshman Meghan McLean and senior Tara Whelan tied for 12th place and the Central Connecticut women's golf team finished in sixth place at the 2018 Northeast Conference Championships on Sunday. Central finished with a team score of 1,002 after shooting a 331 in Sunday's final round. The Blue Devils were four shots back of Saint Francis U for fifth place and 12 shots behind Wagner for fourth.
McLean shot a final round score of 79 and Whelan fired an 83 as each finished with a final score of 246 for the three round tournament. The tournament was played at the LPGA International Hill Course in Daytona Beach, FL.
Fairleigh Dickinson won the team title with a score of 943, followed by Sacred Heart (972), LIU Brooklyn (983), then Wagner, Saint Francis PA and CCSU. St. Francis Brooklyn finished in seventh place.
McLean and Whelan led CCSU over the weekend. Senior Cecy Gutierrez finished in 21st place with a score of 255 over the three days. She shot 87 on Sunday. Freshman Olivia Gardenhour finished in a tie for 22nd place with a score of 256, and classmate Alexa Brown finished in a tie for 26th place with a score of 263.
