Men's Cross Country Takes Five All-NEC Selections, Two All-Rookie
After taking home their 11th NEC title the Men's Cross Country team snagged five spots on the 2023 All-Northeast Conference team Tuesday.
Men's Cross country took home five spots on the 2023 All-Northeast Conference team announced Tuesday. Two freshmen were named to the All-Rookie team and Aidan Budge was named the Freshman of the Year with a fourth-place finish.
The All-Conference teams are made up of the first 14 runners to cross the finish line at the NEC Championship and All-Rookie teams are comprised of the top seven rookie finishers. The Blue Devils had five finishers in the top 14, including four in the top five. The Blue Devils finished second with a final score of 19. The All-NEC team is comprised of James Sullivan (first place – 25:12.70), Sam Whittaker (second place – 25:20.60), Aidan Budge (fourth place – 25:32.80), Eddie Nicholas (fifth place – 25:36.00), and Yankarlos Diaz (seventh place – 25:43.50). CCSUs Aiden Budge was the top rookie finisher and Calvin Young (27:04.80) also recived All-Rookie honors.
The men's cross country team took home first place in three races this year (The LIU Fall Festival, The Paul Short Invitational, and the NEC Championship). The Men's cross-country team placed an impressive 13th in regionals.
CCSU has had two Athlete of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors this season (Whittaker 2x, Budge 2x).
