Sam Whittaker Named Athlete of the Week
The winner of back-to-back NEC Athlete of the Week awards, Whittaker posted an outstanding finish in a competitive field at the IC4Q/ECAC Cross Country Championships.
Samuel Whittaker led the Central Connecticut men's cross country team to two victories in his first two meets as a Blue Devil. He helped his team place tenth this past weekend at the IC4Q/ECAC Cross Country Championships. On the 8K course, the graduate student from Salem, CT placed third overall among 310 harriers. Whittaker crossed the finish line in 24:00.7, helping the Blue Devils to a 10th-place finish in the 34-team field. Whittaker was just five seconds behind the top finisher from Northeastern and 0.6 seconds behind George Mason's second-place finisher.
At the Paul Short Invitational (8K) on Saturday, September 30th Whittaker finished in second place among 409 harriers with a time of 24:42.9, just six seconds behind the top finisher from Columbia. The graduate student from Salem, CT led the Blue Devils to a first-place team finish in the 47-team field with three runners finishing in the top 25 and two in the top ten.
The Blue Devils will next compete in the NEC championships on Saturday, October 25th. They are 10-time Northeast Conference champions and were runners-up to Wagner a year ago.
