After a strong showing in last weekend's Father Bede Invitational, James Sullivan and Salvatore Masciarelli were awarded Athlete of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively.
Sullivan was named Athlete of the Month thanks to an impressive showing in the Blue Devils first meet of the season at the Father Bede Invitational in Loretto, PA. He won the individual title and paced the Blue Devils pack of six top-10 finishers. He completed the 6K course in 18:52.1.
Sullivan was followed by a pack of Blue Devils, one of them being rookie Salvatore Masciarelli, who finished 34 seconds after Sullivan. Masciarelli was the first freshman to cross the line in the men's 8K.
Along with Sullivan and Masciarelli's awards, four other Blue Devils were named Prime Performers for the week. Sophomore Jacob Ireland, junior Elias Field, junior Yankarlos Diaz, and freshman Mark Rodriguez were all on the Prime Performers list alongside their teammates.
Men's cross country will be back in action on September 24 for the annual CCSU Ted Owen Invitational at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain.
