Men's cross country collected five votes and tied for first with Wagner, three first-place votes, in the Northeast Conference's annual preseason poll Monday. The Blue Devils are coming off an NEC Championship in the fall of 2021.
Central will be looking to secure its 11th NEC Championship this season. 2021 NEC Coach of the Year, Eric Blake, will be returning for his 14th season as head coach of the Blue Devils. Under Blake, the men's cross country team became the first team in any sport in league history to win nine straight titles (2009-2017).
CCSU had three finishers in the top five at the 2021 NEC Championship last year and claimed six spots on the 2021 All-Northeast Conference team. Three Blue Devil All-NEC honorees return this season: Yankarlos Diaz, James Sullivan, and Jacob Ireland.
Saint Francis U and LIU were picked third and fourth to round out the top four. Merrimack was picked fifth and followed by Stonehill and Sacred Heart.
The Blue Devils will kick off their season with a race at the Father Bede Invitational in Loretto, PA on September 2.
