Hertzog Takes Seventh At New England XC Championships

Hertzog completed the 8k course in 24:47.7, averaging a 4:59.3 mile to pick up the seventh place individual finish. The time marks the fastest time turned in so far this season across the NEC on an 8K length course. Hertzog beat the previous fastest time of 24:55.8 set by Darrel Gooding from Fairleigh Dickinson on Sept. 19, to set the new standard in the conference.
Freshman Austin Trainor was the next Blue Devil to cross the finish line. Trainor finished with a time of 225:53.0 to earn an 80th place individual finish.
Sophomore Brenden Callahan and junior Connor Malcolm were next, finishing 136th and 167th respectively. Callahan turned in a final time of 26:29.5 and Malcolm completed the course at the 26:52.8 mark.
Rounding out the scoring runners for the Blue Devils was junior Derek French who logged a 175th place individual finish. He clocked in a time of 26:59.3 to earn the result.
Freshmen Alex Norstrom and Kevin Rivera also competed in the meet for CCSU. Norstrom finished just behind French in 187th place with a final time of 27:08.3. Rivera came in 205th, crossing the finish line with a time of 27:44.0.
The Blue Devils averaged a time of 26:12 as a team and scored 565 points to record the 24th place result. Boston University earned the victory at the New England Championships with a team score of 143. Amherst was runner-up scoring 176 points, followed by Maine (199), Dartmouth (207) and UMass Amherst (211) to round out the top-five.
The men's cross country team will return to action in two weeks as they return home and host the CCSU Mini Meet on Friday, October 23. The meet will take place at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT at 4:00 p.m.
