Men's XC Finishes Third at Marist Invitational
The Blue Devils are coming off their fifth consecutive NEC title.
The Central Connecticut men's cross country team opened its 2014 season at the Marist Invitational on Saturday at Vassar Farm. The Blue Devils finished third out of four teams at the event. Sophomore Thomas Lupoli paced the Blue Devils with a top ten finish. He ran at a 19:46.80 clip to claim 10th place overall.
Sophomore Ryan Hertzog crossed second for the Blue Devils, he finished right behind Lupoli in 11th place with a time of 19:48.34. Junior Tyler Raymond claimed 14th place and was the next runner to cross the finish line for the Blue Devils. He finished with a time of 19:55.74.
Rounding out the scoring for Central was Junior Malcolm Connor who finished 30th overall, crossing the finish line in 20:53.87. Freshman Eric Davidson made his CCSU cross country debut with a 39th place finish and was the fifth representative for Central with his time of 21:29.06. Sophomore Jamil Ferguson completed the race with a time of 21:41.52, which was good for a 44th place finish.
Marist and Iona tied for first with a score of 30 points. CCSU finished third with a score of 79 points. Vassar College finished fourth with 98 points.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Sep. 20 when they compete in the Iona Br. Doyle Meet of Champions in the Bronx, NY. The starting shot gun for the men's race is scheduled to go off at 10:15 a.m.
