Assistant cross country and track and field coach Sam Alexander has earned the opportunity to run for Team USA in Trinidad & Tobago this weekend.
Central Connecticut assistant cross country and track coach Sam Alexander has been selected as a member of the Team USA roster to compete at the 2014 NACAC Championships on Saturday, February 22 in Trinidad & Tobago.
Alexander was selected as one of just five members of the senior men's team after competing on Team USA at the 2014 Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross Country race in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Team USA finished second in Edinburgh and Alexander placed 27th, crossing the 8K finish line in a time of 26.05.
A former Blue Devil standout, Alexander qualified to compete in January's 2014 Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross Country race by finishing ninth out of 410 runners at the USA Club Cross Country Championships in December. Alexander completed the 10K in a time of 31:27, registering a pace of just over five minutes per mile. He finished just 22 seconds behind the lead runner.
During his tenure as a Blue Devil, Alexander racked up numerous accolades including the 2011 Northeast Conference Individual Champion title, NEC All-Conference honors in 2010 and 2011 and also led CCSU to it's third-straight NEC victory in his final season.
Alexander joined the Blue Devil coaching staff in the fall of 2012, in which CCSU won its fourth consecutive NEC title, followed by its fifth this past season.
