Men's XC Second on Friday; Hunt 1st Overall
The Blue Devils are set to compete next week at Saint Francis U. to defend their NEC title.
The Central Connecticut men's cross country team claimed second at the CCSU Mini Meet on Friday at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT. Senior Craig Hunt placed first overall in the field of 119 runners with his time of 14:58.45.
Hunt was the only runner to finish the 5K in under 15 minutes. He was followed at the finish line by junior Patrick Hubbell, who registered a time of 15:20.15 for 12th place. Senior John Krell finished 19th with his time of 15:28.78 and, less than four minutes later, sophomore Tyler Raymond earned 21st, clocking a time of 15:32.19.
Freshman Derek French completed the scoring for Central, placing 36th with his time of 15:46.98. Freshman Joseph Gioielli also competed for CCSU, crossing the finish line in 15:59.21 in 48th place.
CCSU was edged by Providence who tallied 65 points. Central earned 86, followed by Yale (106), Stony Brook (111) and UMASS-Lowell (114) rounded out the top five.
The Blue Devils entered the meet coming off of an impressive victory at the New England Championships on Oct. 12. Following the win, CCSU moved up in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Regional Rankings. Central now ranks eighth in the Northeast Region.
Central will travel to Saint Francis U on Saturday, Nov. 2 to defend their Northeast Conference Champion title. The Blue Devils have claimed the title the last four seasons and look to win their fifth-straight next weekend.
