Scheibenpflug Earns NEC Honors
Cross country freshman David Scheibenpflug is the NEC Rookie of the Week for his performance at the Quinnipiac Invitational Saturday.
Central Connecticut cross country freshman David Scheibenpflug was named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for his performance at the Quinnipiac Invitational, the league announced Tuesday.
Scheibenpflug was the second Blue Devil to cross the finish line in the win over Quinnipiac. His fourth place finish overall was just over one second behind the first place runner, CCSU junior Andrew Hill, with a time of 27:49.8. This finish was nearly two minutes faster than his 49th place finish last week in his first collegiate cross country meet at the Nassaney 8K with a time of 29:19.5.
The Wolcott, CT native participated in cross country and track at Wolcott High School where he earned numerous accolades including Most Valuable Runner and Most Improved Runner. He was also named to the All-Conference, All-State and All-Northeast teams.
Scheibenpflug and the rest of the Blue Devils will return to action this Saturday for their first home meet, the Ted Owen Invitational, at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT. The men will begin at 11:30 a.m. preceded by the women at 11 a.m.
