Men's XC Captures CCSU Mini-Meet
Craig Hunt and Sam Alexander finished second and third on the Stanley Park 5K course.
The Central Connecticut men's cross country team finished first at the CCSU Mini-Meet on Friday afternoon. The 5K race serves as the final tune-up before next weekend's Northeast Conference Championship meet. Junior Craig Hunt finished second and led a strong Blue Devil pack that placed five runners in the top-nine.
At last year's Mini-Meet Hunt set a new course record with a 14:55 performance. This year he improved on his time, running a 14:53, but he finished behind Providence's Alex Wallace. Wallace ran a 14:46 to set the new Stanley Park 5K course record.
Finishing behind Hunt, was senior Sam Alexander in third place with a 15:03 performance. Senior Jeremy Schmid's 15:23 time earned him a sixth place finish and junior John Krell came across seventh with a 15:36.
Sophomore Andrew Hill completed the Central score with a ninth place finish and a 15:37 mark. While senior Ben Lazarus and freshman Andrew Pullaro displaced runners from other teams in the scoring by finishing 11th and 14th, respectively. Lazarus ran a 15:46 and Pullaro a 15:50.
The Blue Devils posted a team score of 27 to earn the victory. Providence finished second with a score of 73 and Bryant took third with a 101 mark.
The Blue Devils head into next weekend's conference meet as the two-time defending champions. The meet will be hosted by Monmouth University in Holmdel, NJ, on Oct. 29.
