Men's Track Competes at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational on Saturday
CCSU will take on the UMass Pre-Conference Meet next weekend before the Northeast Conference Championships slated for May 6-7.
The Central Connecticut men's outdoor track and field team competed on day two of Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational at Weaver Stadium on Saturday, Apirl 22. Sophomore Quincy Sanchez took home the highest finish of any Blue Devil in seventh place in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.13, after clocking in at 14.95 during the preliminaries.
Freshman Julio Arredondo ran a collegiate personal best time of 4:03.96 in the 1,500 meter run to come in 17th overall. Arredondo shaved off an impressive 11.03 seconds from his previous fastest mark of 4:14.99 set two weeks ago at the 2017 Rider Invite.
Sophomore Franklin Bartley and junior Tyler Latham performed in both the 110 and 400 meter hurdles for CCSU at Princeton. Bartley finished in 17th place in the 110H with a time of 55.74, and Latham followed in 19th, clocking in at 56.09. In the 400H, the junior finished in 15.18 and Bartley crossed the end line at 15.35.
Fourth year men's track member Zach Andrews completed the 400 meter dash event in 50.19 to round out the day for Central.
On day one of the Larry Ellis Invitational, junior Austin Trainor and freshman Jonathan Gill set personal records in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and the 800 meter run, respectively. Trainor earned a bronze medal after finishing in 8:58.04.
Trainor stands as the Northeast Conference 3K steeple leader and ranks third in the IC4A, 15th in the East Regional, and 42nd on the Division 1 National Performance List. Gill ran an IC4A qualifying time of 1:52.00, beating his old top mark of 1:54.11 set at the 2017 Rider Invite.
Next up for the Central Connecticut men's outdoor track and field team is the UMass Pre-Conference Meet on Saturday, April 29 in Amherst, MA. CCSU will then take its talents down to Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, MD as the defending NEC titlists for the 2017 Northeast Conference Championships slated for May 6-7.
