Men's Track Competes at Monmouth

The Central Connecticut men's track and field team competed in the second meet of its outdoor season on Saturday at the Monmouth Season Opener hosted by Monmouth University. Junior Matt Walker was the only Blue Devil to earn a gold medal on the day, finishing atop the 5,000m field with his time of 14:53.43.

RESULTS

The Blue Devils also collected two second-place finishes Saturday, one in the 110m hurdle event and another in the 3,000m run. Junior Jordan Watkins, who currently holds the CCSU indoor 60m hurdle record (8.22), sprinted a time of 15.10 seconds in the 110m hurdles and was followed by freshman Dan Baum in seventh (16.33). 

Watkins also competed in the 400m hurdles on Saturday, coming in first in his heat (sixth overall) with his time of 57.37. He was joined by junior Ryan Budd in the race who crossed the line just before Watkins in 56.02 seconds. 

In the 3,000m run, junior Patrick Hubbell crossed the finish line in 8:38.76 for second place, followed by sophomore Tyler Raymond in fourth (8:54.63).

In the 400m dash, freshman Tommy Pytel was the first Blue Devil to cross the line with his time of 51.36. Pytel finished first in his heat.

Junior Jamal Fruster also competed in the 400m dash, finishing sixth in his heat and registering a time of 51.39 seconds.

Freshman Elijah Amoah finished third in his section in his first collegiate 100m dash outing. Amoah clocked a time of 11.86 seconds in the event.

Central also performed well in the 800m run. Freshman Thomas Lupoli finished first in his heat, third overall, with his time of 1:57.90 and was followed by sophomore Malcolm Connor (1:58.40).

The highlight of the CCSU fielding events was a discus throwing performance by junior Michael Ficorilli. Ficorilli registered a toss of 38.74m, besting his previous career-best distance of 38.04m which he set at last weekend's CCSU Track Meet in New Britain, CT.

The Blue Devils are scheduled to return to the track this Friday, April 4, when they travel to Stanford.
