Football Announces 2014 Captains
Seniors Chris Abner, Tyrell Holmes and Rob Hollomon as well as junior Nick SanGiacomo will serve as captains this season for the Blue Devils.
Seniors Chris Abner, Tyrell Holmes and Rob Hollomon as well as junior Nick SanGiacomo will serve as captains this season for the Central Connecticut football team. Head Coach Pete Rossomando announced the captains at a team meeting on Thursday night.
Abner, SanGiacomo, Holmes and Hollomon were selected as captains through a vote of their peers during the final week or preseason camp.
Abner, a safety, finished fourth on the team in tackles last season with 56 total stops. He also had 26 solo tackles and 3.0 tackles for a loss.
SanGiacomo, a quarterback, set a school record for passing touchdowns in a season last year, while also leading the Blue Devils to over 400 yards of total offense per game.
Holmes transitioned to wide receiver and made an immediate impact on the offense with big plays. Holmes totaled 774 yards and seven touchdowns on the way to Second Team All-NEC honors.
Hollomon led all NCAA Division I FCS players in all-purpose yards per game last season with 189.17. He enters the 2014 season third on CCSU's career rushing list with 2,556 yards. Hollomon scored 19 touchdowns last season.
The Blue Devils will open the 2014 season against #7 Towson on Saturday, August 30 at 6 p.m. CCSU will open at home on Saturday, September 6 against Albany. That game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. kickoff at Arute Field.
