James Mallory to Attend Tampa Bay Buccaneers Rookie Camp This Weekend

Central Connecticut All-American running back James Mallory has been invited to attend rookie mini-camp with the Tampa Buccaneers beginning this Friday, April 30. Mallory, who led the Blue Devils to the Northeast Conference title last season, rushed for 1,352 yards and 16 touchdowns in his final season in New Britain. He was named an All-American and was a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, given each season to the top player in the Football Championship Subdivision.

White Tops Blue in Annual Spring Game on Friday; 2010 Captains Named

The white team topped the blue squad 28-7 on Friday afternoon at the annual Central Connecticut State University Spring Football game at Arute Field. Junior transfer quarterback Gunnar Jesperson was named the game's Most Valuable Player after going 25-for-41 for 357 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for a score. The Blue Devils open the 2010 season on Saturday, Sept. 4 at New Hampshire at 12 noon. They will play five home games during the 2010 season. The home opener will come on Sept. 11 vs. Bentley.

Spring Open Mac: Coach Mac Discusses the New Coaching Staff and the First Eight Practices

Coach Mac sat down with us on Wednesday following the team's eighth practice of the spring. He discussed the new faces on the Blue Devil coaching staff and also what has been happenning on the field during the first couple of weeks of spring ball. The Blue Devils have a week and a half until the Spring Game, which will be held on Arute Field on Friday, Apr. 23 beginning at 1:30 p.m. The day will start with the ring ceremony honoring the 2009 Northeast Conference champion Blue Devils.

Northeast Conference Champion Football Team Announces 2010 Schedule

Head Coach Jeff McInerney and the Central Connecticut State University football team announced its 2010 schedule on Thursday. The Blue Devils, coming off their third Northeast Conference title in the last six seasons, won the outright NEC crown in 2009. They finished the year with a 9-3 overall record and a 7-1 mark in conference action. Central opens the season on the road at New Hampshire on Sept. 4 in Durham, NH.

Former CCSU Football Player Mike Cerullo and the New Orleans Saints Win Super Bowl XLIV

Another former Central Connecticut State University football player is going to be sporting a new ring very soon. Mike Cerullo, a former running back with the Blue Devils from 1987-90, is an assistant coach with the New Orleans Saints. On Sunday night, Cerullo and the Saints defeated the Indianapolis Colts 31-17 to win the first Super Bowl in team history.

Central Connecticut Football Announces Incoming Football Class for 2010

The Central Connecticut State University football team and Head Coach Jeff McInerney announced its 2010 recruiting class on Wednesday. The Blue Devils finished last season 9-3 and won their third Northeast Conference title in six seasons. The Blue Devils graduate a decorated senior class from the 2009 championship season, but a strong recruiting class will help the Blue Devils contend for another NEC title in 2010. In addition, three players have enrolled at CCSU in the spring and are already taking classes.

McInerney Named One of the Top Ten Figures in State and Region Sports by The Hartford Courant

Head football coach Jeff McInerney was listed along with some of the biggest names in sports on Tuesday morning. The Hartford Courant named McInerney one of the top-10 figures in the state and regional sports scene for 2009. The fourth-year head coach led Central to a 9-3 overall record, matching the school-record for wins in a season, in 2009, and its first outright Northeast Conference football title. McInerney is joined on the list by Alex Rodriguez, Jim Rice, Chad Dawson and Joey Logano.

James Mallory Adds AP All-American and ECAC All-Star Selections Following Stellar Career

Senior running back James Mallory was named a Third Team AP All-American earlier this week. Mallory, who rushed for over 1,000 yards for the second straight season, led the Blue Devils to a 9-3 record in 2009. He was also named an ECAC All-Star earlier this week.

Senior Running Back James Mallory Named AFCA All-American

The honors continue to roll in for senior running back James Mallory. Mallory, the 2009 Northeast Conference Offensive Player of the Year, was named to the American Football Coaches Association All America Team on Wednesday. Mallory is the second Blue Devil in the last four seasons to earn the honor. He is only the second Central player to receive the honor at the FCS level.

Football Drops Season Finale to Butler in the Gridiron Classic

The Central Connecticut football team ended its 2009 season with a 28-23 loss at Butler in the 2009 Gridiron Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils, who finish the season with a 9-3 record, matched the school-record for victories in a single season in 2009. The Bulldogs of Butler finished the season with an 11-1 record, and won the Pioneer Football League. The game was the final one in the career of 12 seniors for the Blue Devils, who leave CCSU as the winningest senior class of all-time with 30 wins during their time in New Britain.

You Can Watch and Listen to the Gridiron Classic Live on Saturday as CCSU Takes on Butler

CCSU football fans have three different options to watch or listen to the Blue Devils in the Gridiron Classic on Saturday at 12 p.m. against Butler. The game will air on ESPN Radio 1410 live at 11:45 a.m. with Jason Page and Tom Pincince. The same audio feed will also be streamed on CCSUBlueDevils.com. You can also watch the game online, courtesy of ButlerSports.com. The Blue Devils are going for a school-record 10th victory, they enter the game with a 9-2 overall record.

McInerney, Mallory and Arnold Earn Major Northeast Conference Football Awards on Monday

Central Connecticut State University came away from the Northeast Conference football awards program as the big winner. Fresh off capturing their first-ever outright NEC title, the Blue Devils claimed three major honors and a league-high 10 all-conference selections. CCSU senior running back James Mallory garnered NEC Offensive Player of the Year accolades, Central's freshman linebacker Lawton Arnold secured the NEC Defensive Rookie of the Year honor, and the Blue Devils' Jeff McInerney took the NEC Coach of the Year award.

Travel With the Blue Devils to Indianapolis for the Gridiron Classic

The Northeast Conference Champion Blue Devil football team will play Butler University in the Gridiron Classic in Indianapolis IN, on Dec. 5 at 12 p.m. You can show your support by joining the team at the game. The University has made arrangements for a special charter flight. The package includes round-trip flight tickets, bus transportation (to and from Bradley Airport as well as what will be needed in Indianapolis), and game tickets. The cost is $430 per person (excludes hotel accommodation and meals). The seats are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis, so email now. The deadline is Monday, November 30 at noon.

Alondre Rush Earns a Pair of Weekly Defensive Honors on Monday

Junior Alondre Rush has picked up a pair of defensive weekly awards following a solid performance in the Northeast Conference title-clinching victory on Saturday. Rush was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Later in the day, he was named the CollegeSportingNews.com National Defensive Player of the Week. The Blue Devils (9-2, 7-1) topped St. Francis (PA) 14-13 on Saturday to claim the NEC title. They will face Butler in the Gridiron Classic on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 12 noon in Indianapolis.

Senior Running Back James Mallory Named One of 20 on the Ballot for the Walter Payton Award

The accomplishments and accolades are just beginning for senior running back James Mallory. On Monday, Mallory was named one of the 20 players on the ballot for the Walter Payton Award, announced by the Sports Network. Mallory and the Blue Devils won the 2009 NEC title with a 14-13 win at St. Francis (PA) on Saturday. He now has 1,243 yards on the ground through the first 10 games of the season. Mallory joins several of the nation's best student-athletes on the Payton Award watch list.

Jeff McInerney Named a Sports Network Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Finalist

Fourth-year head coach Jeff McInerney was named a Sports Network Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year finalist on Monday. McInerney is one of 20 coaches in the nation on the FCS level to be named to the list. Voting for the winner will be conducted this week and the winner will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 17 during the 23rd Annual Sports Network Awards Dinner at the Marriott Hotel in Chattanooga, TN.
