Volleyball Rally Falls Short at Stonehill on Saturday
CCSU got double-doubles from Weronika Poczynek and Larissa HIemer but fell in five sets.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team fell at Stonehill in five sets on Saturday night in Easton, MA. The Blue Devils rallied from a 2-0 deficit before falling to the Skyhawks in the decisive frame. Weronika Poczynek and Larissa Hiemer both had double-doubles for CCSU.
CCSU hosts Bryant on Tuesday night.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Skyhawks took control in the first set, outscoring CCSU 10-5 to build a 16-9 advantage. Central would rally within, 24-21, before Stonehill finished out the opening frame.
- Central would race out to a 7-1 lead in the second set and forced a timeout following a block by Mia Lombardo and Victoria Sanabria. The Skyhawks would score four straight to level the set at 14-14. With the set tied at 20-all, Stonehill scored three straight enroute to taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
- In the third set, Stonehill built a 6-1 lead to start and had a match point at 24-21. The Blue Devils would stay alive with a kill by Lombardo and an ace from Poczynek and a Stonehill error. A kill by Lauren Milani tie the set at 25-25 as the teams would go back-and-forth with each side having chances to close it out before a kill by Milani and back-to-back blocks from Larissa Hiemer and Isabelle Roufs extended the match.
- Central rallied from a three-point deficit and would go ahead 22-18 following consecutive kills by Roufs to cap a run of seven straight points. A kill by Sanabria would send the match to a fifth set.
- Stonehill regained momentum in the fifth set, building a 9-3 lead after scoring five straight points. CCSU was unable to get closer than 10-6 and the Skyhawks would close out the match on a kill.

11 – CCSU matched a season-high with 11 service aces for the second match in a row.
NOTES
- CCSU is now 2-1 all-time against Stonehill.
- Poczynek posted her sixth double-double of the season with 14 kills and 19 digs.
- Roufs added 13 kills and five blocks.
- Hiemer had a career-high 43 assists, besting her 41 assists at Merrimack. She added 13 digs, five service aces, three blocks and a kill.
- Milani had seven kills and four digs in the third set. She finished with eight kills and 15 digs in the match.
