McLaughlin, Bardes Named to Division I All-Region Team
Roma McLaughlin and Erica Bardes were named to the NCAA Division I All-North Region Team on Thursday. The two Blue Devils led the way on offense and defense as CCSU took home its fourth straight Northeast Conference Championship.
McLaughlin was named to the Second Team All-North Region after lighting it up on offense this season. The midfielder was tied at the top of the NEC with nine goals on the season. Totaling 21 points on the year, McLaughlin was also named Midfielder of the Year by the NEC earlier this month. McLaughlin also got the chance to play for her home team of Ireland this season and just competed with them again last week.
Bardes was the leader on a defense that had an answer for every offense this season and was justly named Third Team All-North Region as a defender. Bardes and the Blue Devils shut down opposing teams in the NEC Championship rounds with two shutouts. Along with her work on the defense, Bardes Like McLaughlin, Bardes was named Defender of the Year by the NEC on November 4.
The Blue Devils finished the 2021 campaign 13-6 overall and 8-2 against NEC opponents. CCSU led the conference in goals per game as well as goals allowed all season.
