Women's Soccer Scores Two Late Goals to Win Over SFBK

Women's Soccer scored two goals in the final five minutes of its game on Sunday to take a 2-0 win over Saint Francis Brooklyn.

KEY MOMENTS

• The whistle was heard early and often in the first half, with both teams committing six fouls.
• The Blue Devils had a number of great looks in the first half that just missed. Giavanna Inzerillo, Erica Bardes and Tess Atkinson each had shots that sailed just high over the cross bar.
• The Blue Devils totaled eight shots in the first half, keeping SFBK's keeper busy, resulting in four first half saves for the Terriers.
• Desperate to break the 0-0 stalemate, both teams peppered shots on the goal to start the second half. 
• SFBK had a good look on the net on a 1-3 fast break early in the second, but Amanda McQuillan placed herself perfectly to make the save.
• With 30 minutes to play in the second half, CCSU had its best chance to score up to that point. McLaughlin highstepped over a Terrier defender and sent one streaking to Abbey chase on the far right side. Chase briefly hesitated on the shot attempt which resulted in an easy save for SFBK's keeper.
• The Terriers got a golden oppurtunity to score a few minutes after Chase's shot attempt. The Blue Devils were called for a foul just outside of the box, but McQuillan was able to handle the shot attempt with ease.
• With time ticking down and overtime looking more and more likely, the Blue Devils were finally able to break this one open. Rosa Arini, who had just subbed into the game for CCSU, handled a juicy rebound off of an SFBK defender and sent it to her right to Autumn Skowrenski. Skowrenski did not hesitate to send it at the goal and scored in the back left corner of the net. 
• After not scoring for 85 minutes, the Blue Devils caught fire after Skowrenski's goal. Just a few minutes later, McLaughlin pulled up from outside the box and sent a rocket over the head of SFBK's keeper, giving CCSU a comfortable 2-0 lead over the Terriers.

NOTES

• Skowrenski's score was her first career goal with CCSU.
• McLaughlin's goal further seperates herself as the team leader in scores. She's totaled six so far this season. She also leads the team with 14 points.
• Despite the late start to scoring, this is CCSU's second highest shot total of the season (22 shots) the first being 29, which has happened twice.
• This is McQuillan's fifth shut out of the season.
