Women's Soccer Opening the Season at UConn
Women's Soccer will be starting off its 27th season on Saturday with a match against the University of Connecticut.
The Blue Devils are coming off of their third Northeast Conference Championship in just as many seasons. The team went a perfect 6-0 during the shortened spring season last year before taking down Long Island University in the championship.
This will be the 14th matchup between the two programs, an out of conference rivarly dating back to 2000. The last matchup between the two Connecticut teams, a 2019 home game for CCSU, ended in 1-1 draw.
Last season, CCSU became the first team since 2006 to sweep all of the year-end NEC awards. Roma McLaughlin, who was named Midfielder of the Year and All-American for the second straight year, will be returning as a captain for the Blue Devils. McLaughlin was second on the team in points last season behind freshman Kelly Brady.
Last year's Goalkeeper of the Year, Amanda McQuillan, will also be returning to New Britain this season. McQuillan kept a clean sheet against every NEC opponent the Blue Devils faced, helping the team to an 18-1 goal differential against NEC schools.
Head coach Mick D'Arcy will be returning for his 22nd season as head coach of the Blue Devils. He has coached Central to a 212-155-38 record.
Saturday's match against UConn will begin at 5 p.m.
