Women's Soccer Defeats RMU 1-0
Cavanaugh records her seventh shutout on the season
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team picked up its first Northeast Conference victory over Robert Morris on Sunday in Moon Township, PA. The golden goal came at the 26:53 minute mark when senior Charlotte Maurer scored off a penalty kick.
The 1-0 victory is the fifth 1-0 win of the year for CCSU. Today's win is also the seventh shutout of the season for the Blue Devils.
Central moves to 7-1-2 overall and 1-0 in the NEC. Robert Morris is now 3-9 overall and 1-1 in league play.
A handball in the box called against RMU allowed the Blue Devils a penalty kick. Maurer ripped the ball past the keeper to notch her fifth goal of the season. Central would hold onto the lead the rest of the match.
Central controlled much of the offensive action holding a significant 15-2 edge in total shots.
Senior Ashley Cavanaugh posted her seventh shutout of the season in the win. Cavanaugh is third in the country in shutouts (seven) and has given up just five goals this season. The Blue Devil defense hasn't allowed a goal in the last 508:26 of play.
CCSU returns to action Friday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m. hosting Fairleigh Dickinson in New Britain, CT. Central is 4-0-2 at home this season and 10-0-2 at home in its last 12 games dating to last season. The Blue Devils are 16-1-2 in their last 19 NEC home games.
