Blue Devils Fall in Final Minute
After storming back to take the lead in the fourth, Central Connecticut women's basketball was narrowly defeated on a late three from UMass Lowell. Ashley Berube and Belle Lanpher led the way on offense with 20 and 19 points, respectively.

KEY MOMENTS
- Both teams came out of the gates slow Wednesday as turnovers stalled a number of drives. The Blue Devils' offense ran through Berube in the first quarter as the senior center was getting touches in the post on nearly every possession. The River Hawks got hot late in the first and took a 21-11 lead going into the second quarter. UMass Lowell shot an efficient 53% from the field.
- The Blue Devil offense stalled in the second quarter, only hitting one of the 15 shots attempted. The River Hawks were able to push their lead further, heading into the break up 37-18.
- CCSU's offense came alive in the second half. The offense was able to get itself to the line more, knocking down seven of their eight free throw attempts, outrebounded the River Hawks 15-6 and drained three three-pointers.
- After knocking down four straight free throws and scoring a layup, Berube knocked down a three. She followed that up with an and-one play, putting her scoring total at 12 in the third quarter. This is her highest scoring quarter this season.
- Heading into the final frame down 10, the Blue Devils attacked with a 10 point run. Forever Toppin swished a three, Lanpher scored, Berube knocked down her free throws and Meghan Kenefick scored again to tie things up at 57.
- Lanpher had a five-point run of her own after this that gave CCSU its first lead since the start of the game.
- The River Hawks did not back down, and drew a foul on a three point shot. They knocked down all three attempts, putting them down one. Another layup inside gave them back the lead with under a minute to go.
- Lanpher knocked down one of her free throws to tie things at 63.
- The River Hawks knocked down a dagger three with 28 seconds left in the game. The Blue Devils were unable to answer back after this as UMass Lowell hit on all of their free throws.
NOTES
- Berube and Lanpher's totals are the highest scoring by a Blue Devil duo this season.
- Lanpher's 19 points is a career high for the sophomore.
