Softball Earns a Pair of Wins Over Hampton and Holy Cross

KEY MOMENTS – GAME ONE
TOP 1ST: With two outs Paige Stringer and KC Machado hit back-to-back singles to keep the inning alive. Ava Cino singled up the middle and advanced to second on the throw, Machado advanced to third and Stringer scored to put Central up 1-0. Reagan Vunak reached on a fielder's choice to score Machado, but Cino was thrown out at third to end the inning.
TOP 2ND: Jazmine LAsane singled up the middle with two outs. Meg Gorman doubled to left center to score Lasane and The Blue Devils took a 3-0 lead. Ashlyn Desaulniers singled and Gorman moved to third and then scored on an error. Central led 4-0 after two.
TOP 3RD: Ava Cino walked and Reagan Vunak doubled to left center. Skyler Warn was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Abby Meehan hit a fly ball to center field that was dropped, allowing Cino to score. With two outs Desaulniers singled to bring home Warn and Vunak, but Meehan was thrown out at third to end the inning. The Blue Devils led 7-0 after three.
TOP 5TH: Regan Vunak walked and Warn singled to lead off the top half of the 5th. Brooke Fedison doubled to left field to bring home Vunak. Lasane reached on a fielder's choice and a throwing error by the Hampton shortstop brought home pinch runner Adrianna Manory that gave Central a 9-0 lead.
BOTTOM 5TH: Kaylee Whittaker had another no-hitter going into the final inning. The Pirates had three hits but were unable to score in the 5th and the Blue Devils won via the mercy rule.
KEY MOMENTS – GAME TWO
TOP 2ND: KC Machado doubled to left field and was hit in by Brooke Fedison and Central took a 1-0 lead. Grace Lawton hit a two-run home run to center that gave The Blue Devils a 3-0 lead after two innings.
TOP 3RD: Ashlyn Desaulniers picked up where she left off in game one and led off the inning with a double. Paige Stringer singled to score Desaulniers and Machado cleaned things up with a two-run blast that helped her team take a 6-0 lead. With runners on first and second Kristina Bozek laced a double down the left field line and brought home Fedison. Central led 7-0 after three.
TOP 6TH: With two outs Paige Stringer singled and KC Machado followed with a double that brought home Stringer and CCSU took a commanding 8-0 lead.
BOTTOM 6TH: Liz Hamilton worked a scoreless bottom half of the sixth to earn her fourth victory of the season.
NUMBERS TO KNOW:
4 - Ashlyn Desaulniers tallied four hits with two RBIs, a double, and a stolen base on the day.
11 - Ava Cino extended her hit streak to 11 with a hit in each game on Sunday.
