Freshman Eddie Nicholas was named the NEC co-track athlete and co-rookie of the week, while Andrew McCarthy earned the NEC field athlete of the week.
Nicholas, who broke into the NCAA Regional Top 20, established himself as a NEC title contender at the Bryant Tri-Meet this past weekend. The CCSU rookie steeple chaser broke the tape in 9:08.70. That time stands only 0.04 second shy of the NEC Championship meet record for the 3000m Steeple Chase. Nicholas ranks No. 16 overall on the NCAA Division I East Region performance list.
McCarthy broke the 50.00m barrier in the discus for the first time as a collegian. The sophomore thrower, who finished second at the 2019 NEC Outdoor Championships as a rookie, won gold at the Bryant Tri-Meet with a 50.75m (166' 6.0") fling. That mark would have ranked first at the 2019 NEC title meet. McCarthy will contend for an NCAA Regional bid being that the Garden State currently sits 39th overall on the NCAA Division I East leader board.
