Baseball Takes Series at FDU with Win Sunday
The Central Connecticut baseball team took its Northeast Conference series at FDU with an 11-5 win in Teaneck, NJ, on Sunday. The Blue Devils plated four runs in the sixth inning to go ahead and got 5.1 strong innings from Sam Hutchinson and Wyatt Cameron out of the bullpen.
The Blue Devils host Quinnipiac in a midweek contest on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Blue Devils scored first in the second inning. Dan Hussey singled, stole second and moved to third on a fielder's choice. He would score on a single by Brady Short to make it 1-0.
- A solo homerun by Jeremy Cheeseman tied the game in the third inning before each side traded two-runs in the fourth. Elliot Good doubled to lead off the CCSU fourth inning and the Blue Devils would load the bases with one out. Short singled to the left side to drive in a pair and make it 3-1. In the bottom of the inning, Joan Sosa tied the game with a two-run homer for FDU.
- The Knights took the lead with their third homerun of the game in the fifth. Justin Sierra led off with a solo shot to make it 4-3.
- CCSU led off the sixth inning with a pair of singles from Michael Torniero and Aidan Redahan before moving the runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Gianno Merlonghi would clear the bases with a homerun to make it 6-4. Jeff Nicol followed with a two-out, solo homerun to make it a three-run lead for Central.
- The Blue Devils added two runs in the eighth inning and two more in the ninth. CCSU had runners on the corners and nobody out in the eighth before an RBI-groundout by Hunter Pasqualini and a double by Hussey made it 9-4.
- In the ninth, CCSU had runners on second and third with two outs before Merlonghi singled through the left side to make it 11-4.
- After Sierra's homerun in the fifth inning, FDU was held to one hit before Hunter D'Amato hit a one-out triple in the ninth inning. He would score on a ground out to close out the scoring.
NOTES
- CCSU leads the all-time series, 61-31
- Merlonghi drove in five runs with three hits for the second time in the series.
- Torniero had three hits and scored two runs.
- Short drove in three runs on two hits. He also scored a run.
- Nicol hit his team-leading fifth homerun. He has a round-tripper in back-to-back games.
- Cameron earned his first save after tossing 3.1 innings. He allowed just one run on three hits, while striking out four.
