Seventh-Inning Rally Sinks Baseball at Bryant
The Central Connecticut baseball team succumbed to a late rally at Bryant, falling 7-6, in Northeast Conference action on Sunday in Smithfield, RI. Central scored the first five runs of the game before the Bulldogs posted a five-run seventh inning to take the lead.
Central returns home and will host Marist on Tuesday.

KEY MOMENTS
- Central would score in each of the first three innings to build a 5-0 lead. CCSU opened the game with four straight singles. Base knocks by juniors Dan Covino and Noah Martinez would each plate a run to make it 2-0 in the first. The Blue Devils tacked on two more runs in the second with sophomore Hunter Pasqualini and Covino each singling home a run to double the lead. Junior Michael Torniero hit a solo homerun with two outs in the third to make it 5-0.
- Bryant managed to push across a run in the fourth. After a leadoff triple, Shane Kelly hit into an RBI-groundout to make it 5-1.
- Senior Sam Loda and Tyler Fote hit back-to-back one-out singles in the fifth before a fielding error allowed Loda to score and make it 6-1.
- The Bulldogs began their rally with a solo homerun by Jackson Phinney in the sixth inning to cut the CCSU lead to four runs. In the seventh, Derek Smith hit an RBI single before the Bulldogs would load the bases with two outs. Phinney would hit his second homerun of the day to clear the bases and make it 7-6.
- The Bryant bullpen would protect the lead, holding CCSU hitless over the final four innings of play and allowed just two baserunners over the final three frames.
NOTES
- Central has gone 13-5 since April 12.
- Torniero went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
- Each of CCSU's first three hitters in the lineup had two hits. Pasqualini scored two runs and had an RBI, while Covino added two RBIs.
