Baseball Outslugged at UConn on Tuesday
The Central Connecticut baseball team fell at UConn, 25-6, on Tuesday in a midweek contest at Elliot Ballpark. The Blue Devils scored four runs in the first inning, before the Huskies responded with a six-run second inning to take control.
Central returns to action with a three-game Northeast Conference series against LIU beginning Friday.

KEY MOMENTS
- Central opened the game with back-to-back singles to spark a four-run first inning. Junior Noah Martinez hit a opposite field double to drive in the game's first run. Senior Sam Loda hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 before freshman Aidan Redahan made it a three-run lead with a single through the middle. Freshman Tyler Fote would collect CCSU's third straight hit to drive in a run and make it 4-0 with two outs.
- The Huskies would take the lead with 10 runs over the first three innings. A two-run single and error drove in two runs as part of a three-run first inning. UConn would score six runs in the second inning, highlighted by a three-run homerun by Zach Bushling. T.C. Simmons hit a solo shot in the third to push the lead to 10-4.
- Senior Jay Devito led off the fourth inning with a single before scoring on a triple by junior Noah Martinez. Loda would follow with a single to drive in a run and make it 10-6.
- UConn tacked on five runs in the bottom of the inning and three more in fifth. David Smith had a two-run single and Simmons had a two-run triple in the fourth, while Bushling hit his second homerun of the day to drive in a trio of runs in the fifth.
- The Huskies added six runs in the seventh and another run in the eighth to round out the scoring.
NOTES
- Martinez finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Both of his knocks were for extra bases.
- Devito, Redahan and Fote added two hits apiece, while Loda drove in a pair of runs.
- The Blue Devils and Huskies each used seven pitchers in the game. Sophomore Jack Kelley started for Central and tossed 1.0 inning. He was charged with three runs on two hits.
