Baseball Rides Pitching Past URI on Tuesday
The Central Connecticut baseball team got strong pitching performances to hold off Rhode Island, 3-1, on Tuesday at Bill Beck Field in Kingston, RI. The Blue Devils pitchers allowed their only run of the day in the eighth inning and held off the Rams to win their fourth straight game.
The Blue Devils open conference play at Wagner this weekend.

KEY MOMENTS
- Central built a 2-0 lead with runs in the second and seventh innings. In the second, freshman Aidan Redahan hit a one-out single and would move to second on an error. After moving to third on a fly-out, he would score the first run on a wild pitch. Central would tack on a run in the seventh after senior Sam Loda reached on a single and moved to third on a ground out and a wild pitch. Redahan would deliver a one-out single to plate Loda and make it 2-0.
- CCSU had opportunities to pad its lead, but would leave the bases loaded in the first, second and fourth innings. The Blue Devils' pitchers would protect the lead, however, allowing just two hits through the first seven innings.
- The Rams got on the board in the eighth inning when Jack Cucinotta and Eric Genther hit back-to-back doubles to make it 2-1.
- Central added an insurance run in the ninth after Loda and sophomore Michael Torniero hit back-to-back doubles to make it 3-1. Freshman Vincent Spizzoucco came on to record the final out in the eighth inning and then struck out the side in the ninth for the save.
NOTES
- Sophomore Jack Kelley started for CCSU and allowed just one hit and one walk in 3.0 innings. He recorded one strikeout.
- Sophomore Randy Reyes collected the win after tossing a perfect inning in the fourth.
- Sophomores Joe Rios, TJ Wainwright and Patrick Reilly each tossed a shutout inning in relief.
- Spizzoucco struck out four in 1.1 innings of work for his second save.
- Loda had two hits and two runs scored, while Redahan went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
- Senior Jay Devito added two hits and drew two walks, while sophomore Hunter Pasqualini drew four walks in the game.
- Central won despite leaving 14 runners on base.
- CCSU head coach Charlie Hickey has a 588-512-5 record in 23 years at the school
