Boulay Surpasses 1,000 Assists, Volleyball Stopped at St. Francis Brooklyn

The Central Connecticut volleyball team was tripped up at St. Francis Brooklyn, 3-0, in Northeast Conference action on Friday in Brooklyn Heights, NY. The Blue Devils and Terriers split the season series for the second-straight season.

KEY MOMENTS 

  • Central would build a lead of 15-11 midway through the opening set after a kill by Nyjha Marcelin. The Terriers would regroup and draw even at 16-all, forcing a CCSU timeout. The Blue Devils would score coming out of the stoppage, but St. Francis responded with six unanswered points to go ahead 22-17 and take the lead for good on the way to taking the opening frame.
  • The teams would go back-and-forth in the early stages of the second set. After CCSU was within, 6-5, following a solo block by Mia Lombardo, the Terriers would extend their lead to 13-9 and force a CCSU stoppage. St. Francis scored back to back points out of the timeout to make it 15-9 and would not let the lead go to fewer than five points the rest of the set.
  • St. Francis Brooklyn scored the first four points of the third set and led throughout the frame. After Weronika Poczynek broke the Terriers run to open the frame, SFBK would go ahead 6-1 and did not let the lead shrink below three points the rest of the set.

NOTES 

  • The teams are now tied in the NEC standings for fifth-place. The Blue Devils have gone 10-2 against St. Francis dating back to the 2016 season.
  • Poczynek led CCSU with 11 kills, while adding nine digs and a service ace.
  • Boulay had 11 assists and nine digs, while adding a service ace and a kill.
  • CCSU was limited to a .084 hitting percentage, while the Terriers managed to hit .311.
