Central Connecticut freshman Weronika Poczynek was named the Northeast Conference/Molten Volleyball Rookie of the Week it was announced Tuesday by the league office. Poczynek posted a pair of double-doubles in her opening weekend of Northeast Conference action.
Poczynek posted double-digit kills in each of Central Connecticut's matches last week to lead the Blue Devils to a 1-1 start in NEC action. Averaging 3.40 kills per set, the outside hitter combined for a .214 hitting percentage against St. Francis Brooklyn and LIU. Poczynek was impressive in her first-ever league game, delivering 10 digs and a career-high 21 kills — including seven in the decisive fifth set — for a double-double against the Terriers. She went on to fire of 13 kills in a five-set defeat to the Sharks. This is the Poland native's first-ever NEC weekly honor.
