Balanced Attack Carries Volleyball by St. Francis Brooklyn, 3-0
The Blue Devils close the regular season on Saturday against LIU Brooklyn.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team used a balanced attack to sweep St. Francis Brooklyn, 3-0, on Friday night in Detrick Gymnasium. The Blue Devils got match-high 12 kills from both senior Raquel Quirarte and junior Madelyn Kaprelyan to improve to 12-12 overall and 9-4 in the Northeast Conference. CCSU won by scores of 25-18, 25-20, 25-19.
Central closes the regular season on Saturday at home against LIU Brooklyn.
Kaprelyan finished with a double-double, adding 14 assists. Junior Morgan Woycik added nine kills and sophomore Emma Henderson chipped in with eight kills. Junior Erin McDermott had 21 assists. CCSU hit .317 as a team in the match.
Senior Kaitlyn Kushman led the CCSU defense with 10 digs, while junior Gala Galabova had six blocks.
Central trailed for much of he early going in the opening set before a kill by Kaprelyan tied the set at 10-10. Henderson would serve four points and Quirarte had back-to-back kills to make it 12-10. Central would led the remainder of the set, scoring the final three points, including two kills by Quirarte, and close it out 25-18.
CCSU would lead throughout the second set. The Terriers would tie the score at 6-6, but the Blue Devils came back with four straight points. SFBK would later close within, 19-18, but after consecutive CCSU points forced a timeout at 21-18, the Blue Devils closed the game on a 4-2 run.
CCSU rallied in the third set to close the match. The Blue Devils trailed, 19-17, before a SFBK service error opened a run of seven straight points to close the set. Kaprelyan had two kills in the spurt, including the final point of the match.
Central will honor its seniors prior to Saturday's match against LIU Brooklyn at 4:00 pm.
