Volleyball Sweeps FDU on Friday
Central travels to Sacred Heart on Saturday night.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team swept Fairleigh Dickinson, 3-0, on Friday night in Hackensack, NJ. The Blue Devils won by scores of 25-16, 25-11, 25-10 to take the match. CCSU improved to 11-11 overall and 8-3 in the Northeast Conference with the triumph. With the win and other results in the league, CCSU clinched a spot in the league's postseason tournament.
Central travels to Sacred Heart on Saturday night for a 6:00 p.m. match.
Junior Madelyn Kaprelyan had a double-double with 13 kills and 12 assists, while classmate Erin McDermott also notched a double-double with 25 assists and 12 digs. Sophomores Ashlyn Eisenga and Emma Henderson had 15 and 10 digs, respectively.
Central hit .429 as a team, while limiting the Knights to a .067 hitting percentage. Sophomore Samantha McCreath and Henderson each added eight kills for CCSU.
FDU scored the first two points in the opening set before CCSU responded with nine unanswered points to take control of the game. The Knights would get no closer than 9-4 the rest of the game, while Central stretched the lead to 20-7 for the largest of the game. Junior Gala Galabova finished the frame with a kill.
Central led 10-7 in the early going of the second game, but would go on an 11-1 run to take control and an ace by McDermott made it 21-8. Henderson would close the set out by serving three straight points.
The Blue Devils scored the opening nine points of the third game, with Henderson scoring three aces in the run. Central got back-to-back kills by sophomore Nicole Kramer and junior Morgan Woycik to close out the match with a 25-10 win.
