Volleyball Falls to Bryant on Friday Night
The Blue Devils travel to Robert Morris and Saint Francis U next weekend.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team fell at home against Bryant, 3-0, on Friday night in Northeast Conference action. The Bulldogs took the match by scores of 25-21, 25-14, 25-21. The Blue Devils had 15 blocks as a team, but the Bulldogs limited CCSU to a .102 hitting percentage.
The loss moves CCSU to 8-10 overall and 5-2 in the NEC, while Bryant moves to 15-9 overall and 5-2 in the NEC.
Sophomore Emma Henderson led the Blue Devils with seven kills. Juniors Madelyn Kaprelyan and Erin McDermott had 14 and 13 assists, respectively. Senior Kaitlyn Kushman had 12 digs and sophomore Ashlyn Eisenga added 10 digs. Junior Gala Galabova led the Blue Devils with a match-high eight total blocks.
Central started the match out strong, building a 4-1 lead in the opening game after a Kushman ace. CCSU would lead by as much as 14-9 before the Bulldogs used a run of 8-2 to take a 17-16 lead and would not trail again. A kill by Kaprelyan would tie the match again at 21-21, but the Bulldogs scored the set's final four points.
In game two, Bryant scored the opening four points and would open the set with a 6-1 lead. Central would trail throughout the game and could get no closer than 6-3 in the early going. The Bulldogs would allow consecutive Blue Devils points just twice, including a late pair that made it 24-14 before closing out the set and taking a 2-0 lead.
The Blue Devils were forced to take an early timeout in the third game after falling behind 5-0. The timeout allowed Central to regroup and would eventually close within 16-14. The Bulldogs would use a timeout of their own to stem the CCSU momentum and would maintain the lead, closing out the match with a 3-1 mini-run.
Central has a break in its schedule until heading to Robert Morris on Friday, Oct. 19, for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
