Madelyn Kaprelyan posted her second triple-double of the season on Saturday.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team fell in a rematch of last season's Northeast Conference championship, 3-1, at LIU Brooklyn on Saturday. Junior Madelyn Kaprelyan had her second triple-double of the year for the Blue Devils, while classmate Erin McDermott added a double-double. In a matchup of team's unbeaten in league play this season, CCSU fell by scores of 16-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-23.
Central slipped to 6-9 overall and 3-1 in the NEC, while LIU improved to 7-6 overall and 4-0 in the NEC.
The Blue Devils scored eight straight points to build an 8-1 lead in the opening game. Sophomore Emma Henderson had a run of three straight aces in the spurt. The lead would grow to as much as 19-7 as Central would grab control of the opening set to win, 25-16.
The two teams would go back-and-forth in the second game. A kill by Kaprelyan would give CCSU a late lead at 23-22, but the Blackbirds would rally and score three straight to take the game and even the match.
LIU took control of the third game with a 10-1 run that would give the hosts a 12-5 lead. CCSU would manage to cut the deficit to 17-14 after a kill by Kaprelyan, but the Blackbirds would maintain the lead and take the set, 25-19.
In the fourth game, LIU led in the early going before a run of four points on service by senior Raquel Quirarte would draw CCSU even at 17-17. The teams were tied at 20-20 before LIU scored back to back points to take the lead for good. Central would get within, 24-23, but the Blackbirds closed the set out to win the match.
