Volleyball Moves to 8-3 in Conference Play With Win Over Sacred Heart
Blue Devils post 18 blocks including eight in the final set
The Central Connecticut volleyball team improved to 15-7 overall and 8-3 in Northeast Conference play with a 3-2 home victory over Sacred Heart on Friday night in New Britain. The Blue Devils are now 5-1 at home this season and will end their home schedule on Saturday hosting Fairleigh Dickinson at 4 p.m. on Senior Day.
The Blue Devils posted 25-18 and 25-21 victories in the first two sets to take the early lead. Sacred Heart rebounded and won set three 25-22 and set four 25-21 sending the match to the deciding fifth set.
The Blue Devils used defense to climb to an early lead in the third set, and put the Pioneers away with a 15-10 victory to win their second straight. Central finished the match with 18 blocks, including eight in the final set, leading to the victory. It's the second 3-2 victory vs. the Pioneers this season.
Sophomore Madelyn Kaprelyan led the offensive attack with a team-high 15 kills in the match. She also added five block assists for the Blue Devils. Freshman Samantha McCreath added 10 kills and classmate Emma Henderson and junior Raquel Quirarte each added nine. Five Blue Devils recorded at least eight kills in the victory, as senior Maddie Smith added eight to go along with 14 block assists.
Senior Lindsey Massicotte added 23 digs for the Blue Devils in the victory. Sophomore Erin McDermott had a team-high 29 assists and 12 digs. Junior Kaitlyn Kushman added 21 assists and seven digs.
The Blue Devils are back in action at home on Saturday, hosting Fairleigh Dickinson in their final regular season home game of the year. The match will begin at 4 p.m.
