Volleyball Sweeps St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday
The Blue Devils host Sacred Heart on Friday night.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team swept St. Francis Brooklyn, 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-22), on Saturday in Brooklyn, NY. Central improved to 14-7 overall and 7-3 in the Northeast Conference with the victory. Sophomore Erin McDermott had a double-double with 18 assists and 10 digs for the Blue Devils.
CCSU returns to action on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. when it hosts Sacred Heart.
Freshman Emma Henderson had 15 kills and sophomore Madelyn Kaprelyan had 12 kills, while hitting .524. Junior Kaitlyn Kushman added 12 assists as CCSU hit .327 as a team.
Senior Lindsey Massicotte had a team-high 13 digs and classmate Maddie Smith had five total blocks to lead the Central defense.
The Blue Devils used a 4-0 run to break a tie in the opening set and take a 10-6 lead. The Terriers closed within 23-21 late in the set, but Central would score two straight to end the set.
Central controlled the second set and led by as much as 22-12 en route to taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
CCSU opened the third set with five straight service points by McDermott and never trailed in the frame. The Terriers managed to claw within, 24-22, but a kill by Smith ended the match.
The Blue Devils host Sacred Heart on Friday night to begin their final home weekend of the regular season.
