Volleyball Falls in Five Sets at Brown on Tuesday Night
Blue Devils will play their first home match of the season vs. LIU Brooklyn on Friday
The Central Connecticut volleyball team dropped a five set back and forth match, 3-2, on the road at Brown on Tuesday night. With the loss the Blue Devils are now 7-4 overall on the season. Brown improves to 5-6.
The Blue Devils will begin Northeast Conference play and play at home for the first time this season on Friday night when they host LIU Brooklyn at 7 p.m.
Brown won the first set 25-18 before the Blue Devils responded and won set two 25-21. The Bears rebounded, and won the third set 25-17, but Central had another answer for the Bears in set four. The Blue Devils responded by evening the match with a 25-16 win in set four. Set five was much of the same but the Bears pulled out to an 8-5 lead halfway through the final set. The home team was able to pull away and win the final set, 15-10, and win the match.
Freshman Samantha McCreath and senior Maddie Smith each led the offense with 12 kills on the night. Sophomore Madelyn Kaprelyan added 10 and junior Raquel Quirarte had seven to help pace the offensive attack.
Senior Lindsey Massicotte paced the defense with 21 digs, while Smith had seven blocks and McCrreath, Kaprelyan and freshman Eline van Heijningen each added four. Sophomore Erin McDermott had 24 assists while junior Kaitlyn Kushman added 19.
After playing their first 11 matches of the season on the road the Blue Devils will open the home portion of their schedule, and league play, vs. LIU Brooklyn on Friday night at 7 p.m. in Detrick Gym.
